COM2LIFE
NETWORK
CoM2Life forges a unique consortium surrounding JGU Mainz, TU Darmstadt, the MPI for Polymer Research, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microsystems and Microtechnologies, and the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research. In soft matter and biomaterials research, JGU, TUDa, and MPIP have been collaborating for more than a decade in a range of DFG-based structural network programs. TUDa's new strategic Centre for Synthetic Biology (founded in 2020) is a unique transdisciplinary center in the German research landscape and an excellently matching research flagship for the realization of the CoM2Life vision. Complementary contributions from TUDa and JGU in communication science strengthen the initiative. 7 DFG network programs (joint Collaborative Research Centers and Graduate Schools), LOEWE clusters, Carl Zeiss Stiftungs-Programs, and other state-based research initiatives as well as Max Planck Centers provide critical momentum for CoM2Life. In education, we build on the newly founded JGU/TUDa MSc program “Soft Matter and Materials”, as well as on the TUDa MSc programs on “Synthetic Biology” and “Biomaterials engineering” and the JGU program of "Biomedical Chemistry". 12 ERC grants and three SNSF Professorships underscore our PIs’ personal excellence. We are connected to a wide EU Network via 13 Initial Training Networks or Doctoral Networks in the past 5 years alone.
